Self Portrait

This is a self portrait that I did at the beginning of the second trimester of my sophomore year at William Carey University. This is actually the very first self portrait painting that I have ever done. I did other self portraits, but
instead of making the paintings as representational as possible like this one, I played around with color and altered the background and my eyes. I painted a full moon in the window and made the eyes either red or white to make the painting more mysterious. This one is still my favorite out of the self portraits that I have done, although it is a little muddy.

  1. I like this portrait of you as well. I would have to agree that the color is muddy. But I am in class with you so I know that you have fixed that problem :)) You need to post some of your new work, I LOOOOOOOOVE it

  3. I do agree that the color in this painting is on the muddy side. I like your later portraits better color wise, but I really would love to see your latest work on your blog. You are amazing at still lifes.

  4. Hey you know I'm a big fan of you mysterious side. You seem like a modern day vampire and I love vampires. Being serious I wish I had your expertise of making those wonderful shapes.

  5. I agree that you should post some of your new colorful still lifes, but I think your self portraits are interesting, as well. You have just gotten really good with color :)

  6. This is a very peaceful image in my opinion. The colors and the soft edges convey a "relaxed" look, and the facial expression is contemplating, even curious, rather than expressionless and dull as I'm used to seeing in many self-portraits... This reminds me of how I need to work on my own portrayal of realistic facial expressions, haha.

  7. Dude, I have always enjoyed your style and the way you go about your paintings. You have this dry humor about you that comes out in your work. I remember the first time I say this painting of yours I saw first the humor of this painting because this is not how you perceive yourself to be .. am I right?

  8. Awesome painting! The way you shaded the curves of the fabric is nice, I also like how subtle the painting is. Keep up the good work.
